The Scientific Computing Course at ASU

Abstract This talk will provide a survey of the goals and content of MAT 420, Scientific Computing, as it has been taught for the past two years. I will discuss how the course fits in the mathematics curricula at ASU and will give reasons for the selection of the material that has been covered, which includes shell scripting, Perl, Fortran 95 and the C++ Standard Template Library, and some of their applications in scientific computing.
